Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters has chosen Reece Walsh ahead of James Tedesco at fullback for Australia's Rugby League World Cup opener. Walters spoke about his decision for leaving Tedesco out, with reports connecting Tedesco's NRL grand final performance to the call.

The decision has sparked debate across the rugby league community, given Tedesco's standing as one of the game's premier fullbacks. It is a controversial choice heading into the tournament.

Jack Preston was also added to the team, picking up his first representative call-up. Preston's inclusion gives Walters more options as Australia gets set for the World Cup campaign.
